Project Spotlight ยท Broomfield, CO

Broomfield sits between Denver and Boulder, with a lot of newer neighborhoods backing onto open space and trails. Yards here are often long, narrow or sloped, and the goal is usually the same: a patio big enough to use, and less lawn to maintain. Here are three recent projects our crew completed in Broomfield: a stamped concrete patio set in rock and turf, a stamped patio with turf on an open-space lot, and a raised concrete patio on a block retaining wall.

1. Stamped Patio in Rock & Turf

This new-build backyard was all dirt behind a horizontal wood fence. We poured a large stamped concrete patio with a charcoal border out in the yard, set concrete stepping pads through gray rock to reach it, and installed two panels of synthetic turf on either side. New trees and shrubs along the walls finish the space.

2. Stamped Patio & Turf on an Open-Space Lot

This home backs onto open space, but the yard was a narrow strip between the house and the fence. We poured a stamped concrete patio in an ashlar slate pattern with a tan border and a step down from the walkout, and ran synthetic turf along both sides so the yard stays green next to the native grasses.

3. Raised Concrete Patio on a Block Wall

The back of this home sat well above the yard. We built a block retaining wall with a cap to raise the ground to door height, then poured a large concrete patio on top with steps down to the lawn. A wood and metal railing runs along the edge of the raised section, and a rock border at the base handles drainage.

Built for Broomfield Yards

Broomfield’s clay soil, wind and freeze-thaw winters are hard on outdoor projects that aren’t built right. On every job we plan for that:

  • A compacted base and proper control joints so stamped and plain concrete don’t crack or settle.
  • Retaining walls built on a solid base to raise or level a yard safely.
  • Drainage that moves water away from the house, with rock borders, grading and slope on every hard surface.
  • Low-water options like synthetic turf and rock alongside the patio.
