Retaining Wall & Sod Projects in Lakewood, CO

Lakewood runs right up to the foothills, so a lot of yards here are on a slope, and older homes often have front yards that drop straight to the sidewalk. Retaining walls are some of the most common jobs we do here. Here are four recent projects our crew completed in Lakewood: a long curved retaining wall with new sod, a terraced front yard, a front-yard block wall along the sidewalk, and a front lawn with new sod.

1. Curved Retaining Wall & New Sod

This hillside home had a backyard that sloped down to the street. We built a long, curved block retaining wall along the bottom of the lot to hold the hill and create a big, level lawn, then laid fresh sod across it. Below the wall, a planting strip with shrubs softens the wall from the street side.

2. Terraced Front Yard with Block Walls

The front yard of this duplex was a bare slope. We broke it into level terraces with two rows of block retaining walls, added concrete steps up from the sidewalk to each entrance, and finished the terraces in gray rock with ornamental grasses, shrubs and a center mulch bed with a new tree.

3. Front-Yard Block Wall Along the Sidewalk

This brick ranch sits above the sidewalk, and the slope kept washing onto it. We built a block retaining wall along the front of the lot and around the corner, with steps where the wall drops in height and landscape lights along the top.

4. Front Lawn Sod & Wall Edging

A simple job that changes how the whole house looks: we laid new sod across the front lawn of this brick ranch and edged the bed along the driveway with a low block wall and red mulch.
