Brighton is growing fast. New subdivisions, custom homes on open acreage, and established neighborhoods with big trees and sloped lots all need something different from their yards. Here are five recent projects our crew completed in Brighton: a stamped concrete patio with a fire pit, a modern concrete-and-turf grid, backyard retaining walls with rock landscaping, a full backyard of new sod, and a stamped concrete patio extension.

1. Stamped Concrete Patio with Fire Pit & Seat Wall
This new-build backyard started as bare dirt behind a walkout basement. We poured a large stamped concrete patio that runs under the deck and curves out into the yard, then built a curved stone seat wall along the edge with a round fire pit beside it. The deck posts got a stone veneer to match.
Beyond the patio we installed a curved synthetic turf lawn with a concrete border, and finished the rest of the yard in rock with water-wise shrubs and trees.

2. Modern Concrete Slabs with Synthetic Turf Joints
For this modern custom home, the homeowners wanted a clean, architectural look across the whole back of the house. We poured large concrete slabs in a grid with synthetic turf strips between them, including a round center slab where the lines meet. The turf joints stay green all year without watering, and the pattern ties the patio, steps and wide-open lot together.

3. Backyard Retaining Walls & Rock Landscaping
This backyard rose toward the back fence. We built long runs of block retaining walls along the fence line in two levels to hold the grade, then finished the yard with rock landscaping around the mature pine trees, leaving a curved section of lawn near the house. A river rock path runs between the walls along the fence.

4. New Sod, Mulch Beds & Trees
This large fenced backyard needed a real lawn. We graded the yard and laid fresh sod across it, shaped curved mulch beds along the fence line, and planted new trees and evergreens. A gravel area in the corner holds the homeowners’ raised garden beds.

5. Stamped Concrete Patio Extension
The builder’s patio on this home was barely big enough for a grill. We extended it with a colored stamped concrete patio in a stone pattern, with a contrasting border, so the homeowners now have room for a table and chairs. Rock beds around the edges keep it clean and handle drainage.

Built for Brighton Yards
Brighton’s clay soil, open wind-exposed lots and freeze-thaw winters are hard on outdoor projects that aren’t built right. On every job we plan for that:
- A compacted base and proper control joints so concrete patios don’t crack or settle.
- Retaining walls built on a solid base with drainage behind and below them, so slopes stay put.
- Drainage that moves water away from the house, with rock channels, grading and slope on every hard surface.
- Low-water options like synthetic turf and rock beds alongside sod where a real lawn makes sense.
