Littleton has a little of everything: established neighborhoods with mature trees and brick homes, brand-new subdivisions with bare dirt backyards, and plenty of sloped lots. That means every yard needs a different plan. Here are four recent projects our crew completed for Littleton homeowners: a paver patio with a fire pit, seat wall and tiered retaining walls, a complete new-build backyard, a terraced side yard with paver steps, and a compact paver patio.

1. Paver Patio, Fire Pit, Seat Wall & Tiered Walls
This backyard had a raised deck but nothing usable underneath it or out in the yard. We built a large paver patio that runs under the deck and flows out toward the lawn with a curved edge. At the far end we added a round stone fire pit surrounded by a curved seat wall with matching pillars, so there’s built-in seating for a crowd without hauling out chairs.
The area under the deck is now a shaded hangout spot, and the fire pit area gets used well into the fall.

The same backyard dropped off steeply beyond the lawn. We broke that slope into tiers of block retaining walls with a wide set of block stairs down the middle, planted evergreens along the walls, and ran a river rock channel at the base to carry water away. Out front, we poured a new concrete driveway and built a matching block seat wall at the entry.

2. New-Build Backyard: Sod, Patio & Rock Borders
New homes in Littleton often come with a fence and a backyard full of dirt. For this one we graded the yard, laid fresh sod across the full lawn, and built a paver patio off the back of the house with a clean, angled edge. River rock borders along the house and fence line handle drainage and keep mud off the siding, and a mulch bed finishes the corner.

3. Terraced Side Yard with Paver Steps
This side yard was a steep, narrow strip that was hard to walk and impossible to plant. We built a paver walkway along the house and broke the slope into level terraces with timber edging, connecting them with wide paver steps. The terraces now hold garden beds, and the homeowners can walk from the front of the house to the backyard without fighting the hill.

4. Side-Yard Paver Patio
Not every project needs a huge footprint. Here we turned an unused side yard into a small paver patio with a built-in step, framed by rock beds and ornamental grasses. It’s a quiet spot for a couple of chairs that used to be wasted space.

Built for Littleton Yards
Littleton’s clay soil, sloped lots and freeze-thaw winters are hard on hardscapes that aren’t built right. On every job we plan for that:
- A compacted gravel base under every paver so patios and walkways stay flat instead of sinking or heaving.
- Drainage that moves water away from the house, using rock borders, grading and slope on every hard surface.
- Terraces and steps on sloped lots to turn a hill into usable, walkable space.
- A clean finish, with edging, borders and fresh sod so the yard looks complete the day we leave.
