Castle Rock is one of our favorite places to work. Big lots, mature trees, open views toward the foothills, and yards with real character. It also has hilly lots, heavy clay soil, and freeze-thaw winters that punish anything built carelessly. Here are five recent projects our crew completed for Castle Rock homeowners: flagstone paths and patios, water-wise planting beds, a covered deck, a stone fire pit on a stamped concrete patio, and a stamped concrete walk and patio.

1. Flagstone Paths, Planting Beds & Path Lighting
This backyard backs up to open space with views of the hills, and the homeowners wanted a yard that matched the setting. We laid curving flagstone walkways that link the house, the hot tub and the lawn, and framed them with mulch beds, boulders and new plantings. Low-voltage path lights line the walkways so the yard is just as usable after dark.
Out in the lawn we added a circular flagstone patio for a dining set, and a flagstone path leads to a stone-ringed fire pit tucked under the trees.

2. Stepping-Stone Paths & Water-Wise Plantings
On this property the goal was to connect every part of a large yard without covering it in hardscape. We set natural stepping stones through the lawn to lead from the house to the fire pit sitting area, and ran a wider flagstone walkway along the side of the home to the hot tub.
Along the front porch and the stone wall of the house we planted water-wise beds with ornamental grasses, sedum and drought-tolerant perennials. They hold their color through the summer and need much less water than a traditional bed, which makes sense for Colorado.

3. Second-Story Covered Deck
This newer Castle Rock home needed an outdoor space off the upper level. We built an elevated deck with a covered roof, a tongue-and-groove ceiling with a fan and lighting, and stained wood railings. There’s room for a grill and outdoor kitchen setup, and the roof keeps it usable through summer sun and afternoon storms.

Below the deck we laid fresh sod across the yard, edged with a concrete curb and a rock border along the fence.

4. Stone Fire Pit & Stamped Concrete Patio
For this backyard we poured a large stamped concrete patio in a stone pattern and built a rectangular fire pit with stone veneer and a stone cap in the middle of it. Matching low seat walls and raised planter walls run along the fence, so there’s built-in seating around the fire. It turns the patio into a gathering spot for cool Castle Rock evenings.

5. Stamped Concrete Front Walk & Patio
At this home we poured a curved stamped concrete walkway in a stone pattern that leads to the porch, framed by planting beds. Out back, a large stamped concrete patio with a contrasting border extends from the covered patio into the lawn.

Built for Castle Rock Yards
At over 6,000 feet, Castle Rock gets strong sun, quick temperature swings and plenty of freeze-thaw cycles every winter. Many lots also sit on slopes or on expansive clay soil. On every job we plan for that:
- A compacted base under stone and pavers so paths and patios stay level instead of heaving after the first winter.
- Drainage planned from day one, so water runs away from the house and doesn’t pool on walkways and turn to ice.
- Plants that fit the climate. Water-wise perennials and grasses handle the sun and dry spells and keep watering bills down.
- Materials that age well, like natural flagstone and stone veneer that look better over time.
